Westin Heavenly Bed
The Westin Heavenly Bed : Experiencing the perfect sleep.
In partnership with World Sleep Society, Westin Hotels and Resorts across Asia Pacific took part in a series of activities and events on World Sleep Day on 18th March 2016.
We were delighted to be invited by The Westin, Gurgaon to experience The Westin Heavenly Bed : an unique sleep experience which is found in all Westin Hotels Worldwide. So off we went, to snuggle into The Westin Heavenly Bed with 10 layers of pure comfort to experience a sleep rivalling the exquisite bed of a true princess from Hans Andersen’s “Princess and the Pea” story 🙂
The Westin Hotels celebrated The World Sleep Day, an annual event created by the World Sleep Society (yes it truly exists :P) to raise awareness of sleep disorders and the burden that they place on society.
Sleep is essential for a human being to maintain the delicate balance of health necessary for its very existence and survival. Sleep is, therefore, a fundamental and basic requirement without which the existence of life itself would be in peril. Keeping this in mind, in 1999 Westin Hotels turned the travel industry on its head and sparked a hotel bedding revolution with the 1999 launch of the Heavenly Bed. This iconic invention became a hotel retail sensation and inspired countless imitators across the world.
The Westin is dedicated towards travellers well- being and promote restorative sleep, leading to wellness programs that are designed to enhance rest and recovery. The Westin Well- being Movement encompasses programs across Westin’s six pillars of well-being – Sleep Well, Eat Well, Move Well, Feel Well, Work Well, Play Well, to promote a comprehensive approach to healthy lifestyles. The world- renowned Heavenly Bed, nourishing Super Foods dishes, the energising WestinWORKOUT, RunWESTIN and Westin Gear Lending with New Balance are few of the programs and initiatives, that calibrates and contributes towards every element of a guest’s stay at Westin. It caters to their well-being, leaving them feeling better than they first arrived.
So, whether you are adjusting to a new time zone or recovering from your travels, restful sleep is the key to renewal and at Westin, they understand the absolute importance of restful sleep.
While we interacted with Sleep experts to enhance our insight on the importance and benefits of good and healthy sleep, we also talked about the fear of sleepless nights. The resident Doctor asked us “Do you fear sleepless nights?” and the lady sitting next to me promptly replied, “You have no idea how long the dark lasts when you cannot close your eyes to it!”
We all are like “Day Traders”. We stare at our computers all day, looking for the next deal. We forget to Sleep Well, Eat Well, Move Well, Feel Well, Work Well and Play Well.
And then we stay up all night decoding the mysteries and dealing with our nagging thoughts of What was, What is, What will be, What could have been, and What should have been … pingponging between the past and future in never ending arcs.
We are very much aware of the fact that we will never be able to know the answers, yet we all keep playing the scenarios in our head on repeat mode during the essential time which is Sleep.
It’s so easy to get stuck there. Isn’t it?
Sleep is such an underrated word – it’s a timeless world that has no name for measure and breaks up in the mirrors of the day.
I couldn’t resist sharing this famous quote on sleep by the famous American Stand-up Comedian, George Carlin who states “People say, ‘I’m going to sleep now,’ as if it were nothing. But it’s really a bizarre activity. ‘For the next several hours, while the sun is gone, I’m going to become unconscious, temporarily losing command over everything I know and understand. When the sun returns, I will resume my life.’
If you didn’t know what sleep was, and you had only seen it in a science fiction movie, you would think it was weird and tell all your friends about the movie you’d seen. Likely in the following manner 🙂
“They had these people, you know? And they would walk around all day and be OK … And then, once a day, usually after dark, they would lie down on these special platforms and become unconscious. They would stop functioning almost completely, except deep in their minds they would have adventures and experiences that were completely impossible in real life. As they lay there, completely vulnerable to their enemies, their only movements were to occasionally shift from one position to another; or, if one of the ‘mind adventures’ got too real, they would sit up and scream and be glad they weren’t unconscious anymore. Then they would drink a lot of coffee.”
So, next time you see someone sleeping, make believe you’re in a science fiction movie. And whisper, ‘The creature is regenerating itself.”
The Westin Heavenly Bed was a groundbreaking development, which transformed the entire hotel-retail environment by altering the perception of the bed. No longer was it viewed as just a regular requirement in a room but rather as a range of personalised services, the provision of which was the focus point of all other hospitality services provided by the hotel.
The Westin hotel chain established new trends across the hospitality industry, through its carefully designed bed to promote superior slumber – from the down duvets and plush pillows to the custom pillow-top mattresses.
Ever since this phenomenon, more than 75 million guests have tucked themselves into the Westin Heavenly Beds at Westin hotels around the world. More than 30,000 beds and 100,000 pillows have been sold.
Westin spent more than $30 million to create the perfect night’s sleep and introduced 52,000 new Westin Heavenly beds in its 39,500 guest rooms, becoming the first hotel brand to take sleep seriously.

I was now ready to retire for a restful night’s sleep in the Ten layers of pure comfort of the Westin Heavenly Bed and have this one exceptional sleep experience.
Hence, I asked my fears to hide far far away in the the winged night !
So, who will you be tonight in the dark thrall of sleep, when you will slip across its wall?
Until then, I’ll dream of getting my very own Westin Heavenly Bed in my bedroom, and be the Princess in the Pea Story 🙂 … the one and only true discerning princess haha 😀
